I'm trying to transfer colleges within my university, but to do this I have to take the freshman intro course for that college. Unfortunately, I can't do this because I'm not a student in that college. (Really??!!?) I talked to my adviser in my current college and she pulled all the strings she could, but they won't even talk to me because I never applied to be a freshman in their college.

Anyways, the only way I can possibly get into this class is to show up the first day and ask the professor to let me take it. Now I don't really get how the professor can just override his department, but apparently he can. Has anyone ever done this? Just walked up and said "Hey I didn't register for this class, can I take it anyways?"

I haven’t done it, but it’s not particularly rare. Whether the professor agrees will likely depend on how full the class is to start and how persuaded they are by your reason for wanting to take the class.

your knees, get down on them.

^Yeah, that’s what I figured. So much for changing majors, I really wanted to study it, but I’m starting to think it’s not worth it to be treated like dirt for the next 1-2 years because I was an undecided freshman.

I walked into this topic expecting an interesting and whimsicial story of how one student (OP) wanted a professor to take a class with him, possibly for romantic and/or interesting and/or comical reasons. I was very disappointed to find that it was another topic of a typical student who is afraid of finding the answer to a question himself due to low courage and self-esteem and had to resort to asking Internet strangers for the answer to a question whose solution would have been easily found if the OP had been made of a stronger mettle.

The tour guide for my school told me that it’s not too uncommon for students to ask professors. Just go in and be polite and your professor will most likely understand.
