Okay, I just got admitted to the UIUC LAS for the Fall 2009 as an Econ major, but am thinking of transferring into the College of Engineering/Business (even though business college shares quite a few classes).

Is it a hard thing to do as long as you maintain grades?

Others can answer better than I can, but I'll still try. Engineering and Business are the hardest schools to transfer into, and I believe you only get one shot at transferring into Business (at the end of Freshman year). Realistically you need probably a 3.4 or higher to even be considered (which, if you're in LAS, shouldn't be out of reach). I think you need to have basic maths out of the way (I'd assume Calculus and maybe Calc2) and a few intro econ classes. Engineering really depends on which department, as some are full to capacity and others are lacking students. For instance, I know ECE and ME are pretty full at the moment.

Just from interest, what were your ACT/SAT scores?

SAT was 2010 >.<, didn't take ACT, I took SAT IIC and got 700, even though I got 690 on SAT I, yeah I know right?

About transferring in, I am looking at business more than engineering at this point, because my work background is almost all finance. I am aiming to get around a 3.4 at the moment, and hoping to test out of Calc I (my HS took me up to mid Calc II) but everyone is advising me against because Calc I could be a cushion for my GPA?

i can only speak for engineering as i am an engineering student (i transferred from a community college). it depends on what discipline of engineering you plan to go into as well, some are more competitive than others
