What is the best way to ask for a letter of recommendation from a teacher?
There is a teacher that I have a really good relationship with, he has helped me get through some tough times in class and improve my writing and learning and he also knows my family and we have a lot in common (parents from same town, same interests, ect.).
The thing is in class we are normally just joking around and laughing and it is not the most serious relationship so I dont know how to ask him to show him I am serious about this. Any tips would be helpful!
So I assume right now you are unable to talk with this teacher in person? My suggestion would have been to bring up college apps and ask if he would write you a recommendation and then followup with an email. If you can’t have a conversation first, then just send an email. I would start with a short email asking if he would be willing to write you a recommendation - and then follow up with a detailed email that includes information on the schools you are considering applying to, what you are hoping to study, reminders of the course(s) you have taken from him and how you did - and any comments he has made about great work you’ve done. Include a resume or list of accomplishments and extra curricular activities. Also include the logistics of the letters - when do you need it, what he should do with it (upload to common app?), etc. And be sure to thank him for agreeing to write it - and thank him after he writes it!
