Asking for a rejection letter?

So I think I pretty much messed up my chances for Chicago...

Things I did wrong:

1) Start supplement at 11:34PM on Jan 3rd
2) Put engineering as my intended major even though Chicago doesn't have a school of engineering for undergraduates
3) Not do the optional essay
4) Copy and paste my Harvard essay for my extended essay, which ended up being only 600 words
5) Write my Why Chicago essay in a day
6) Not sign up for an interview
7) Send in Application 3 days late

Are my chances pretty much 0% right now? I'm not mad or sad or anything, I think it's kind of amusing how I can screw up an application so badly, haha.

How much do you want to go to Chicago?

Not much. I just sort of applied because I got an email saying they extended the deadline for the supplement, so I was like ‘why not’.

Then why do you even care if you don’t want to go that much?

I’d say that those things you listed definitely aren’t good, but if you’re someone UChicago actually wants, obviously they’d take you. The time you started/submitted things isn’t going to influence their admissions decision that much, but rather who you are as an applicant.

Your chances aren’t 0%. If everything else in your application looks good - who knows? - you could be accepted, but it’s more likely you’d be waitlisted. (I threw together an application similar to yours for another school and sent it in, oh, maybe a month and a half late, on the very last day they were accepting late materials. I did manage to grab myself an interview, though. Still, waitlisted.)

I applied just for fun. I don’t think my parents will let me go if I do get in. I was just wondering if I should even expect to have a chance, but it seems like my chances will be lower but not completely gone. So, that’s good I guess

My question is about the Extended Essay: How did you complete such esoteric questions with a Harvard prompt?
I only see that and the engineering as negatives. The other factors don’t really contribute to your admissions decision.

^I actually just received an email back from them about the engineering thing, I got it changed to chemistry, so I can cross that off the list now.

Easy. I just used #5- Make your own question. ;)

That’s sorta funny actually. I used my Chicago essay as my optional supplemental essay for Harvard. :P

Well, your name is ‘logically’ for a reason. :)

Same. :stuck_out_tongue: Although I applied to 12 colleges, I really only wrote 3 essays: common app, a supplement that I just recycled and tweaked for different prompts, and a “Why College X?” that I just recycled and tweaked for each college. :stuck_out_tongue: And I also “made my own prompt” for Chicago, and it worked for me.

As far as the original question:
1, 3, 4, 5, and 7 don’t matter. 2 is just kinda dumb. :stuck_out_tongue: And 7…I’m not sure. I didn’t sign up for an interview, and I got in EA… It’s definitely not a requirement.

Double post.

your chances aren’t 0, but i think chicago will be able to tell your essay wasn’t sincere or intended for them. honestly, if you’re not that interested in chicago (a somewhat unique and particular school), why did you apply?

incidentally, i used my “why chicago?” essay for my harvard and columbia supplement, but those were completely open ended (and i don’t really want to attend either now that i’m in chicago).
