Asking for an increase in merit aid

Just got accepted to a doctorate in physical therapy program. Merit aid is 15percent and assistant ship is about 15 percent. My EFC is 0. Is this a good award? Can I ask for more.? How should I frame that inquiry.

Thanks

To be honest, I am not even sure how to interpret this. 15% of what? How much are you getting after tuition/fees (if anything)? Is this a research degree (leading to research work or academia) or a professional degree (leading to some type of practice, like a JD or MD)?

Your EFC doesn’t really matter in graduate school. And yes, ANY aid is good for a DPT program - usually DPT programs are financed entirely with loans, so the fact that you have a scholarship that covers 30% of your costs is actually pretty good.

You can ask for more, although I wouldn’t expect it to be successful. Basically phrase it something like “I would really like to attend this program; however, it would be easier for me to make this decision if I had more funding. Would you be able to increase your support to X amount?” where X is some reasonable increase from what you are at now (so maybe 50% coverage).

You should have posted in the Grad & Professional school Medical area where people with that knowledge post. However you got lucky with juillet. Are you using your mother’s account? Aside from that being very confusing, it is against the terms of use here, make your own account.

You mother gave incomplete and misleading information, leading to wrong answers in the financial aid thread she started. However she finally disclosed more and there is this advice there.
