I've never done it before, but I think I'm going to do it tomorrow.

I've been literally in bed all weekend with a bad flu and a temp upwards of 100. I was planning to tough it out and go to school today anyway when I found out my dad is moving out and spent the day dealing with stomach flu on top of a lot of complicated, emotional family stuff. To top that off the meds I'm taking for depression reacted with the cough medicine I took so I spent two hours in the hospital tonight. I'm just so physically and mentally exhausted I can't write this freakin' paper.

What do you all think of extensions? Have you asked for them before? Does my situation seem justified? If so, should I ask for an extra day, or a week, or what? I've never done this before.

I don’t think I’ve ever asked for one before (or if I had it was a class-wide needed thing where no one had finished because we weren’t given enough time) , but I do believe your situation is justified. Who can do work with a temperature over 100 and in the hospital? Your teacher should be sympathetic to your situation.

I agree with Sidra: there’s nothing wrong with extensions if you didn’t just blow the assignment off.

Your situation is perfectly justified. I have had to ask for extensions before and my general experience has been that teachers are really understanding. Talk to your teacher about it, you should be fine.

Yea, talk to your teacher. Whoever doesn’t accept your situation would just be a complete a-hole. You might want to give them a signed note just in case (like it is in my school )

In our Code of Conduct, this is a perfectly justifiable reason. Actually, we are given 2 days of make up for every excused day missed, so if you have a similar policy, make sure that you bring it up if you teacher challenges you. Try to bring a note as back up if possible.
