I made an earlier thread, but it seems to have been forgotten, so:

For my teacher recommendations, I asked two people: a science research teacher and my band teacher, both who I've known for at least three years. However, I just realized that the band teacher only counts as a "other" recommender on the common app, not a regular recommender. Its fine for most of my colleges I'm applying to except Vanderbilt, which requires two recommenders. I'm considering asking a social studies teacher who knows me very well; however I'm wondering if its a good idea to do it this late. My EAs are basically all good in terms of teacher recommendations, its just Vanderbilt that I need another recommender, and I'm applying RD. I'm also contemplating this because I'm thinking about having him recommend me for some of my other RD's. Any advice here?

Yes, there’s ample time before RD, but keep in mind, he may say no due to how many recs he already has to write.

Honestly, if need be, you would probably have ample time for EA. A month is plenty of time for a great rec.

It is later than ideal, but not “too late”. You need another rec to make the Vanderbilt application work, so there is no harm in asking.

Advice:
Explain the basics of the situation, apologize for the late notice, ask politely. If the teacher agrees to write it, express gratitude. After its uploaded, write a thank you note and bring him some homemade cookies or similar token of appreciation.

@guineagirl96 Yes, this can be a little worrying news. Luckily, I have two backups for this, a math teacher from sophomore year who still knows me pretty well as a good math student (she recommended me for BC Pre-Calc, and as a result I’m in AP Calc BC) as a secondary person. Also thinking of asking a social studies teacher who knows me really well (I was a little robust in his class, I admit, but was still a really good student and he knows me pretty well, including the fact that I self studied APUSH that year) as a third backup just in case.
