I have to ask my counselour for recommendaiton. I can do that. I go to her for stuff all the time.

But asking a teacher?

There are only 2 teachers I trust to do this. But how do I go about asking them?

"Srta, could you please write a recommendation for me?"
And then bug her to give it back to me? Knowing these teachers, it will probably take them a week to get to it. :/

I just don't know the ettiquitte. No, I can't spell! Boo, maybe I shouldn't go to college! >_>

Anyway, how should I go about it? I only have 2 and I'm writing Three applications so I might go to one twice. :/

eek i'm nervous about this too. i hate asking people to do stuff for me, especially teachers or adults.. ahh. and i'm not really comfortable with any of my teachers so i have to ask like random ones.

Most teachers don't do recs on the fly, all my teachers flat out told me there's a 4 week turnaround time or that I'd need to tell them I need a rec before the summer so they can do it over the break. It's probably polite to give them around 3-4 weeks to write a letter and fill out the forms.

On the other hand, it's ok to remind them nicely about your deadlines (assuming you didn't just ask them 2 days before it was due) but be reasonable about it and be polite. Don't get in their face and demand to see their progress or something.

If you have more than one app and need more than one letter from a single teacher, you should give him/her all the app recommendation forms at the same time and he/she will probably write one letter and print out many copies. Many teachers don't write college-specific recs so it shouldn't be a problem. Don't forget to also give them a copy of your "resume" with your grades, ECs, APs, notables, etc.

PS: you have to mail those letters out yourself? My school insists that all teacher recs be returned directly to the office so that they can use the official school envelopes and stuff to mail them out.

Make sure you ask them plenty of time in advance so you do not have to feel pressured to have it done quickly, this way it won't be a problem if it takes them more than a week.

To ask the teachers...just approach them, and explain that you need a recommendation for college, and that you would be honored if they would write one for you. no excessive flattery, but don't just demand one either. Many teachers would take your selection of them as a compliment, and besides, they do it every year, so I'm sure it won't be such a big deal to ask. Just don't think twice about it.
