asking for recommendation

i'm asking a teacher who doesn't know me well for recommendation because I need a rec from a history/english subject areas and this teacher i was going to ask from last year left.

when asking him, it would be kind of awkward for me.
Do i just ask him, "Can you please write me a recommendation. I don't have no one else to write me one." ?????

Or do I just ask him without mentioning the "no one else" part?

The teacher who left may still be a possibility. S/he may be willing to write one if you or the GC or the principal know how to make contact.

I'd leave out the double negative, but yes, it's a problem when the teacher who really likes you moves on before you do. Try asking the new one "Do you have time to write a college rec? I'd really understand if you don't, but since Ms. So-and-so left you are the teacher I respect most" without mentioning that it has to be from an English/SS teacher.

Nice wording, dragonmom. Perfect.
