What is the best way to do this? Email or phone? What to say? The college is top 2, maybe top 1, for the student who is on a lot of aid (aid pkg not yet arrived but should be sufficient.)

When the aid package arrives, if there is nothing for transportation, drop a line to the Fin Aid office and follow up with a phone call.

OK tks, I mean college visit assistance, fly in. Not COA allocation. This is a far away college and I think student should visit. Another top choice did offer it seems. Just want to know best way to ask politely and not put foot in it.

Call admissions for the school, tell them student would like to visit but it is a financial hardship and ask if they can help. Worst they can say is no.

Kat

Contact the the regional admissions person or the person in charge of the admitted student program. For example Dartmouth provides financial assistance for any student receiving institutional aid to attend dimensions. if college is located mar a major city some schools will sponsor buses to bring students to campus for admitted student days.

Also talk to the GC / principal at your high school as most schools have discretionary funds that they have to spend down ( especially if student is title I, lives in temporary housing etc.). What the school may ask is for the parent to pay for the ticket and the will reimburse upon return. Some colleges may also ask that patent front the money to ensure that student attends, then reimburse funds.

That’s interesting. There are a lot of needy students at that HS. Can try. Student is on free lunch. No parents, but has a savings account.
