So my high school officially only reports class rank in deciles. However, as my school isn’t extremely competitive, I would like to know my exact rank (either 1 or 2) and maybe have my guidance counselor report it in a letter of recommendation. Do you think I would be out of line to ask my guidance counselor for my exact rank? Thank you
Go ahead and ask. You may or may not get the info. I certainly won’t be held against you
My D asked for hers and the request was rejected. She was in the same spot, either #1 or #2 and one of her choice schools gave full tuition for vals. Because in the end she probably wouldn’t have made that pick, I didn’t make a big deal of it. And fwiw, one of her professors did tell her on the QT at graduation that she was #1 which made her day ! I have no issue with ranking or ranking in deciles but think they should make exceptions in cases like this. No one seems to have a problem hooraying the quarterback or star runner, do they?
@NEPatsGirl Wow thats harsh!
Well, @NEPatsGirl said that she did not pursue it because the college in question was not top of the list. However, if this was a top choice, and where money is concerned, I’d sure she would have pursued.
However, for a general college application, as @“Erin’s Dad” said, you can ask. They may say yes, they may say no. At the end of the day, it won’t matter for admissions since the school does not report rank.
