I know it says that, but I’ve always been charged for the ATM fees. Maybe they’ve been refunded, but I’ve never noticed it (and I have checked.)

The refund should show up on your monthly statement. If it doesn’t, you should call USAA.

You certainly should check. We’ve used USAA for banking for 20 years and have never paid ATM fees. The ATMs warn you that you will be charged, but USAA never charges us.

You certainly don’t have to have a credit card if you don’t want one, but we’ve found them handy.

Another happy USAA customer here. My kids have had the debit cards since they each turned 13. I don’t think they can withdraw cash from the debit card, but when we looked into setting up a USAA checking account for S1 when he was headed to college, they were quite clear that any ATM fees would be refunded up to their limit, which seemed quite reasonable.

USAA is VERY easy to deal with and they always take care of problems quickly and accurately, in our experience. S1 does not have a credit card, but we will likely insist on getting him one (with USAA) for emergencies should he study overseas next fall.

Eh…the ATM says I’ll be charged, and when I go online, the full charges are there. They could credit them back later but…

I haven’t noticed. I should pay closer attention then.

@Countingdown- I think you can withdraw up to $120 daily or was it monthly? (in one go.) on the allowance cards. So they should be able to. I’ve had my USAA card since I was about the same age.

Although I have gotten funny looks for the appearance of the card before, heh.

I don’t think my kids have ever HAD $130 on their cards… ;)
