How should I go about doing this? Would it be best to email in advance with my intent to meet about it, or should I just show up to office hours?

Thanks for any advice

Thanks for any advice

i just asked them in person during office hours, and had the paperwork ready to give them.

How did you start off the conversation, or did you just ask right away?

Just be tactful and be sure to provide an envelope with stamps. If the person responds in a negative manner, take it as a hint and try searching for another suitable candidate; do not coax a professor into writing a recommendation.

what were all your professors' reponses?

I'm waiting till next week to do this..
hopefully it won't be too bad/embarrassing

sleepybunny,

The professors I am obtaining my recommendations from actually encouraged the idea of a transfer in the first place; I am fortunate to be under such individuals.

First go ask a professor that you feel know you well or that taught a class you perform well in.

If they agree then bring a the forms with envelopes to them.

Here's what I plan to ask to professors who I think liked me:
"Do you feel comfortable giving me a Strong [emphasis] recommendation?"
Good luck.

i would use positive instead.. strong/emphasis seems kind of strong and doubting to me..
