Asking school for more money???

I heard you can contact the Financial Aid officers and ask for a more generous scholarship, or financial assistance.
I alreayd have a 5k scholarship from them, but my total tutition is 22k. (minus scholarship, not including housing).
My school’s a private conervastory, so I hear private can be ESPECIALLY generous.

I’ve already read on here that it’s best to send a letter, written letter-
however I’ve already been (and currently am) in contact with the FA deperartment of my school, just asking questions and going back on fourth about my award letter.

I think I hinted at it a bit, saying i’m concerned about my overall fees and paying, and my reluctance to take on gigantic loans, but they didn’t get it, it seems.

I should be more direct, but I don’t know how I should word this?
Thanks!

Do a search here for threads on asking for more money. There is plenty to read, much of which is repeated over and over.

@BelknapPoint Thank you, yes I have. A lot of them say to send in a written letter, but I’m already in frequent contact with the Financial Aid offices via e-mail.

Reina, writing a letter doesn’t mean going back and forth with three line emails.

It means sitting down and presenting your case, in one page, in a succinct fashion which states your argument for why you should get more money.

They will either review your package or not. That’s how it works. And yes- they “get it”- everyone wants more money. But they may not have any more to give, and they may not know why you believe you deserve more.

So write a letter and tell them, and come up with Plan B in the meantime in case they say “no more money”.

@blossom Okay, thank you. I know, I apologize if I was unclear.
I didn’t know if it’d be redundant to make a written letter while already communicating with the Financial Aid Department.

On another note:

I already had to write a letter along with my enrollment application entailing reasons why I should be considered for a scholarship.

So I already wrote my entire case there, that’s how I got the 5k.

Would it be useless of me to do so again? I will basically be saying the same thing. Or should I just send another letter asking for REconsideration? Like, “Hey, I actually need MORE money.”

I don’t know how to word it differently than the first one that was option with my enrollment packet.

A private conservatory doesn’t have to make nor give any money. You can try, but if they aren’t in the habit of giving out aid, they won’t.
