I am so nervous about asking for rec letters. I dont really have any special relationships with teachers but no teachers hate me, either. What do i say when i ask for one? Aside from teacher rec, should i get my coach or ec advisor to write one? idk what to do

You ask 2 teachers. One math/science teacher, one english/history etc teacher. no coach unless they have taught you in an academic class. EC advisor?really? no.

Tell them you are making your college list now and you want to know if they will write you a letter of recommendation to use. Or you can ask if they feel comfortable writing you a positive letter. You can ask if there is any information you can supply them with or if they are set. That’s all. Smile and thank them.

Some people send other letters in addition to the teacher recommendations, but I guess it’s generally not advisable for people to do this because it’s just more stuff they have to read.

Just pick two teachers who taught you core courses during Junior year (English and Science or Math) Best of luck!

The best recommendation would be from someone who really knows you and can write something good about you. It is not necessarily a teacher from junior year. It could from sophomore or even freshmen year that you keep constant interaction with her/him afterward. Just knowing you from one class may not give too much idea to write about you. The focus of recommendation is not about your academic achievement but you as a person. For that, which subject does not matter.

my experience reading letters leads me to the conclusion that coaches do not write the most effective letters. I won’t speculate why, there are probably many reasons, but they just don’t.
