Asking Teachers to Review Your Essays

How do you go about doing it?

I have 25 essays (and short answers) to write, give or take, and I'm not sure how many essays I should ask my English teachers to read and critique. I have 3 English teachers to ask, but I'm still unsure if I should give them all 25 essays to read, or if I should just give them the important essays (ex. 2 Common App essays), a few supplemental essays, and one "Why [College]?" essay, or what.

Thank you! :)

Uh… definitely don’t give them 25 essays…

Pick one to have one teacher read.

I personally think it would be a little absurd to ask one teacher to review 25 essays. They have lives too you know. If they agree to help you look over an essay, they are doing you a favor, so I don’t think you should take advantage of that. I don’t know if you realize it, but twenty-five is a LOT! And I’m sure they probably have tons of other papers/quizzes to grade from their actual current students and classes. If you present them with 25, they will definitely not appreciate it. I would consider giving them just the more important essays, or essay. I would really only recommend giving each teacher one-two essays, maybe three, tops. You could give different essays to your three teachers, so you still get feedback on 3-9 of your more important essays, without wasting your teachers’ times. Just my opinion though, I’m just a senior going through this process too (:

wow-definitely don’t give each 25 essays. that’s completely unrealistic. have them each review 2, have your common app one reviewed twice. also use your guidance counselor, parents, and friends

One very, very, quick question:
What are you doing with 25 essays? Recycle them! There’s no way all 25 can be good. I’m sorry. It’s just not possible, unless you are quite literally the best writer in human history. Take five or six of them, refine the living heck out of them, and send the highest polish essays you can. In the meantime, try not give more than three to any one teacher, as a rule of thumb. Best of luck!

*My bad, I have 25 essays and short answers. I only have around 10 or so 250-500 essays, but the short answers are just as important to me, hence why I just referenced them all as “essays.”

Recycling works in some cases, but in other cases, they don’t, especially with the “Why [College]?” essays. I mean, I can reuse an essay about my favorite book and how it’s affected me for two colleges, but even if I do that, only a few essays will be done.

But giving 25 essays to one teacher is unrealistic. I’ll give a few to each teacher, and have other people review my Common App essays. Thanks for the tips!
