Aspiring Engineer - Math 1 or Math 2?

Hello all, I plan on going to college for engineering and I'm taking the SAT Subject tests tomorrow. I have heard that offering a Math 1 score to an engineering school is practically pointless, so I should take Math 2. However, I am fairly confident I could score very well on Math 1, well into the 700s. I'm not quite as sure about Math 2, however.

So my indecision lies here: does Math 2 really have that much of an edge over Math 1, and does a good Math 1 score outweigh a decent Math 2 score? (maybe mid-600s)

Most engineering programs prefer that applicants submit the SAT Subject Math Level 2 test.

But why rely on the unreliable opinions/advice doled out on an Internet forum?

Check the websites of the specific colleges to which you are applying. If a preference exists (Math Level 1 vs. Math Level 2), it should be stated there. If it’s not stated or the wording is unclear, contact an admissions representative of the college and request clarification.

Hope this helps…

Most CoE recommend or require Math2 scores. It won’t hurt if you take it while it is not required. It does not make sense to take both as it would still be considered ONE subject. Math2 has a more generous curve that tolerates better careless mistakes.
