Objective:
SAT I: 1990 Single SAT (740 CR, 650 Math, 600 Writing)
ACT: 30 composite ACT (26 English, 30 Math, 33 Reading, 29 Science) (I took the SAT and ACT once each without studying. I like the ACT better so, I’m studying for that a lot and taking it twice this fall. My goal and kind of what I expect is to get a 33-34)
SAT II: N/A (taking Physics and Math 2 twice each this fall, also possibly taking U.S. History or English- what are my chances if I do very well on the Physics and Math 2 tests? I’m studying literally every day for them to try to get a perfect or almost perfect score)
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): Not exactly sure, my school does it out of 100, my weighted GPA is a 102 which I’d assume to be a 4.0, I don’t know my unweighted GPA maybe somewhere from a 3.8-4.0?
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 18th, top 7%, my class is an outlier it seems- if I had the same GPA in the two classes that were before mine or the class below mine, my rank would be top 5
AP (place score in parenthesis): AP U.S. History (5) AP English Composition (5) AP Physics (2) I did well in my AP Physics class but didn’t prepare well for the test and bombed it
IB (place score in parenthesis): N/A
Senior Year Course Load: AP Physics C, AP Chemistry II, AP Calculus, AP World History, AP English IV, Exploring Engineering (a new course taught by my physics teacher)
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): N/A
Subjective:
Extracurricular (place leadership in parenthesis): Played club hockey all my life, physics olympics junior and senior year, angler’s club junior and senior year, The Society of Torch and Laurel
Job/Work Experience: N/A
Volunteer/Community service: none so far, but I’m applying for Juvenile Conference Committee (see: https://www.judiciary.state.nj.us/volunteer/vs_jcc.htm) after someone on one of their panels recommended it to me. Also, I will most likely get some sort of volunteer work if this doesn’t work out
Summer Activities: National Academy of Future Scientists and Technologists (see: http://www.scitechleaders.com)
Essays (rating 1-10, details): N/A
Recommendations (rating 1-10, details): See Below
Teacher Rec #1: AP U.S. History Teacher (N/A) - She said she would write me a letter of rec, but I haven’t received it yet (This is the case for all my recs. I asked earlier this month and they all said yes but have plenty of time to write me their letters). She was one of my favorite and best teachers. I always went the extra mile and she loves me, so I expect a really good letter of rec.
Teacher Rec #2: AP Physics 1 (N/A) - He liked me a lot, so I expect a decent letter. He really cares a lot about his most dedicated physics students.
Counselor Rec: (N/A) - I don’t know him especially well, but he has always liked me and been impressed by curricular and how on point I have been and how easy I’ve made his job lol.
Additional Rec: My club hockey coach (N/A)- I have known him forever. He has been my coach since I was 6 or 7 in several different leagues. He loves me for my work ethic, attitude, and discipline and we are pretty close in general. He jokes I am his second son, so I expect a pretty good rec.
Additional Rec: A semi-famous engineer (N/A)- I know him through him being the husband of a co-worker of my mom’s. I have been in touch with him for about 6 months and stayed at his house with my mom when we visited a couple universities near them. He likes me a lot. He has at least one PHD and several other degrees (I don’t know the exact details, but I know he has gone back to school a handful of times and worked in many different fields of engineering), he was a professor at University of Michigan and Michigan State University, he worked on the construction of the Willis Tower in Chicago and has worked overseas in nuclear power plants among other things.
Interview: N/A
Other
Applied for Financial Aid?: Not Sure yet, but probably not (I don’t know if I will qualify)
Intended Major: Engineering (undecided what kind- maybe mechanical, chemical or aerospace?)
State (if domestic applicant): New Jersey
School Type: Somewhat-large Public (pretty competitive, one of the best school districts in South Jersey- we’ve all had personal laptops provided by the school since 5th grade)
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Male
Income Bracket: I’d estimate between $200,000 - 250,000, but I’m not sure exactly (upper middle class)
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Maybe this counts but I’d say probably not, idk: I have traveled a lot (real traveling, not staying at a resort) for vacation and have learned a lot about other cultures. The countries I’ve been to include: China, Russia, Turkey, Canada, Armenia, Germany, Costa Rica, Saba (small island in Caribbean, technically territory of The Netherlands), Ecuador, Peru, and am going to Cuba this winter)
Reflection
Strengths: Course Load (especially in relation to interests), grades, letter of rec from the engineer I know and the strong letters I expect in general
Weaknesses: not the greatest extracurriculars but not the worst, no volunteer work (as of now but trying to fix that), standardized tests scores aren’t the strongest right now, but I do expect to change that with my SAT II’s and ACT’s.
