Assault/Harassment thread

If getting rid of harassers, assaulters and other sex pests is a calculated political move, that’s fine with me. I hope both parties start to make the calculation that sexual misbehavior is a career ender.

Appealing to the base, huh? So Democratic base thinks that people shouldn’t coddle men who sexually harass people, and elected Democrats therefore have to jettison sex pests, but Republicans think it’s just fine to keep harassers and assaulters in office. OK then. They must think that their voters are happy to dive right into the sewer with them. But I believe some R voters are quietly sidling away.

Nobody deserves to be hounded out of their job by a mob mentality like Franken is… nobody. A bunch of unsubstantiated allegations that could if they even happened be totally innocuous and by anonymous accusers who may have caused to be booted out the one congressman who actually suporrts women’s causes is unparralelled. He said bring on an ethics investigation but thst not enough for the vindictive mob. And then there is the original accusation that isn’t even believable. oh my. When Congress starts eating their own I find it infinitely amusing. It will be interesting to see what Mark Dayton does. As for Al Franken, maybe he is just fine with getting out of that cesspool and enjoy the coming weeks and months with his family. I am so over it all when the good guys get caught in the jaws of the machine. Can’t wait for the book on this one.

The only reason Dems are jumping on Franken to leave is because a Dem governor will get to appoint a Dem successor. Not a lot of risk there, and it gets someone in place for a “re”-election run the next time around. If a Dem thinks that this is to gain some moral high ground they’re crazy because it’s clear that many voters don’t care about a candidate’s morals – or Moore wouldn’t still be in the race.

Warren Moon. No surprise here.

In terms of a personal life (at least one outside the public sphere), I agree. However, politics is different. As is true with entertainment, media and management at public companies. Things turn very quickly. Especially with the speed of today’s media/communications. People going into those arenas understand that when they enter (or at least they should).

Republicans Are Less Likely Than Democrats to Believe Women Who Make Sexual Assault Accusations: Survey

“Warren Moon. No surprise here.”

Was just talking about him last night with H as he was a Jeopardy answer and I didn’t know he was a quarterback. I thought he was a running back. I reminisced (not for the first time but in a long while) how Warren tried to pick me up in a bar in San Diego in the mid ‘80’s at my friends bachelorette party. I even have pictures of me dancing with him.

I was not interested in being a one night stand so nothing but dancing and him buying me drinks happened.

Lisa Murkowski tweeted this:

“We’re seeing a culture of harassment & assault being exposed on a daily basis. Whether you are in the media, politics, or anywhere else abuse of power is unacceptable & shouldn’t be tolerated at any place at any level. Sen. Franken must know that & that’s why he must step down.”

I’m certain she will immediately put out another tweet saying the same of President Trump.

Has she said anything about Moore except being another “If truer” way back in mid November, and suggesting a write in candidate campaign “if true”?

Cardinal, I can’t tell whether that was in a sarcasm font, but know that I wasn’t addressing you or anyone. My comment is only that this was an easy political move for Dems in Congress and not a comment on the average MN voter. I don’t know whether MN voters would continue to support him in a re-election race, but booting him allows another Dem to take his place and be the incumbent in the next election. It’s easy for Dems to do the right thing when there is little consequence and lots of upside.

Conyers was first…

What Conyers did is gross. Meanwhile a state Senator here in California forced a women to watch him masturbate in a small bathroom and no resignation. He got lucky with the fires taking up all the headlines.

So it was just reported that Conyers son and heir apparent was arrested earlier this year for felony domestic violence.

Conyers accusers were believable and he was a known jerk…Big difference

Accusers have been believable against Trump and Moore as well, at least to anyone who isn’t refusing to believe their guys are bad guys.
Democrats (in Congress) moved fast because they want to be able to say that they are against sexual harrassment and abuse. It would be hard to say that while protecting known sexual harrassers and abusers. Democrat voters are absolutely furious and disgusted by the abusers and harrassers and by those voting for them. Anyone seen as complicit risks being swept along in the condemnation.

Yup. Totally despicable and reminiscent of what the colleges did to some male students…railroad job…any man will do, just boot at least one favored son to show “we” are tough. Yuck. I absolutely don’t believe it is all Democrats who are so blind and unable to discern fiction and reality. There is no smoke screen…Franken said the latest story never happened. Nothing to be gained by back pedaling now.

And not one of those accusers is going to have the moxie to come out from behind the curtain of secrecy because they saw Leeann’s story go upside down and saw her on tape do some of the same accusations she hurled. They totally played into the republican hands as far as I am concerned and they must be totally confident they will get a replacement with the same political savvy and beliefs. Wow so dysfunctional.

An expected apology and the “We didn’t know” from a talent agency accused of being complicit with Weinstein.

You’re defending Weinstein too, right, @momofthreeboys? Because he also denies all the allegations?

I don’t agree that it’s despicable. Democrats can’t claim that it’s not ok for republicans to harass and abuse but that it is ok for them to do it. I’m glad those currently speaking out are doing so and I hope it continues. I hope democrats continue to put country before party and say sexual harassment and abuse are not acceptable from anyone.

Weinstein? No I’m pretty sure I posted that I believed the woman who claimed what he did when she was 14… I just found it interesting that Franken said he didn’t remember the state fair picture which is believable and saying this latest claim is not true. That difference between I don’t remember and that didn’t happen I find to be is distinctive.
