A female representative causes controversy with comment stating the revealing clothing being an “invitation” to sexual harassment…

Russell Simmons, a music impresario, is the next domino to fall: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/13/arts/music/russell-simmons-rape.html

He says he was “thoughtless and insensitive.” Three named women say he raped them.

Raping is thoughtless & insensitive—some understatement!

More accusations against Rep. Blake Farenthold:

Vulgarity, abusive behavior to staffers both male and female. No physical abuse alleged.

It makes you wonder why people who are robbed aren’t always accused of having brought the robbery on themselves by dressing with expensive clothing and/or jewelry. Argh!

LOL you must have seen the Tracey Ullman video:

@HarvestMoon1 Tracey Ullmann is a goddess. Loved her since “They don’t know”

Nah, I didn’t watch that video, but it really makes you wonder about judgments people make as to what “invites” bad behavior. It’s sad really.

^Hellvetica, it’s coltish. (TU video)

Rep. Kaptur is in her 70’s and that line of thinking was pretty common among many of her generation. I guess it still is.

Blame the victim is still alive in well (or sick) today, especially in sexual assault cases (did the victim have drugs in her system, where did the assault take place, what time, how was victim dressed, why was victim there). Sadly, some things take a very long time to change, if ever.

Another blame the victim story.

Unbelievable! That woman was asleep when she was assaulted.

The Kentucky lawmaker who was accused of molesting a teenage girl has died; believed to be a suicide. Apparently she filed charges immediately after the assault, but police declined to investigate.

Selma Hayek wrote a very moving letter about what Weinstein did to her. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/12/13/opinion/contributors/salma-hayek-harvey-weinstein.html

Wow–lots of raw pain in her letter. Makes it sound like Weinstein is bipolar, among other things. Ugh!

Pity Rep Kaptur: for suggesting something that women of her day considered common sense, she got a stern talking to. And, at her age, had to do the obligatory mea culpa.

Reposting the link from #361 - just because it’s so sad how these women were not only sexually assaulted, but had no hope at all of being able to work in their chosen field because of him.

What do you mean “at her age”? 71 is not too young to admit when you are wrong, which she absolutely was. No one “invites” abuse by their choice of clothing. That’s absurd.

These stories about Simmons are getting worse and worse. This guy is one bad dude.
