Shame on Russia and the Olympics. Sounds like this is an incident where the U.S. system worked as well as it could have: he was arrested, charged, and convicted despite her refusal to testify; both the Kings and the NHL kicked him out; and ICE put on enough pressure that he left the U.S.
The American and Canadian sports media did not glorify Voynov at the time of the incident. Just the opposite.

Just amazing that they never bothered to determine the identity of that man and just let him walk off the plane!
So much for all of that ID checking at the airport, I guess.
Who the h thinks they should be able to grope someone on a plane?
I’m reviving this thread because I am really, really, really bothered by something, and I don’t know where else to note it.
Has anyone seen – I myself can’t bear to watch – the show on TLC called “Sister Wives”? It’s about polygamous families with, of course, one husband and numerous wives. Every time I turn it on – always by accident – I’m disgusted by the situation. It’s bad enough that women don’t earn the same as men, can’t walk down the street without being catcalled, and have many restrictions on their behavior, but I can’t believe that these women will willingly share a husband and a house with several other women.
I’m also amazed that anyone would watch this show, but since it’s been on for several years, I guess people do.
Wasn’t there another series called “Big Love”?
I hate it too. I’m not sure when (or if) government officials stopped prosecuting it. The “extra” wives go on welfare, as single mom head-of-household since they are not legally married, and the “extra boys” in the community get shunned and expelled because, let’s face it, it’s just stupidly obvious that the math doesn’t add up. If one man has multiple wives, then multiple men have no wife. Even if men are more likely to be gay then women are, it just doesn’t add up.
While we’re on the subject, I hate the Bachelor/Bachelorette shows. Why do these women (and men) degrade themselves like that, waiting breathlessly alongside other hopefuls for a rose that keeps them in the running for another week?
Maybe they are all just in it for the TV exposure. But these shows have repulsed me from the very beginning.
Roy Moore is looking for donations to “fight a lawsuit filed by Leigh Corfman, one of the women who said Moore had sexual contact with her when she was a teenager.”

@Nrdsb4 My D (22) and I were talking about it this morning as she was explaining the HUGE drama from last night. I don’t get any of it but she has watched it since HS. She commented at what point does the manipulation become abuse. (She agrees that they are ridiculous). There is NO way any one can sign up for that show now and NOT know what they are getting in to. My D explained that most are vying to be social media influencers and with thousands of followers it is a good career path to that goal. Not worth the humiliation and loss of dignity. But clearly I’m out of touch.
There are a lot of stupid people in this country. Especially stupid people with no self-respect.
Yes and there are people that are perfectly happy with their lives as different from your life as it may be. Calling people stupid because you believe they are being manipulated and have no self respect is terribly presumptuous in my opinion. They may be perfectly happy and their self respect may very well be in tact. Until women understand that there are as many variations of women and not simply clones of one another the "movement’ is going nowhere. Do I like polygamy, absolutely not and I would certainly help or support one of the “sister wifes” if they asked for help to escape their “marriage.” . Would I ever want to go on or have a daughter go on one of those dating shows…not really because I would not put up with such nonsense…but it’s the show’s participants lives to live and their decision to make and not mind to criticize or put them down.
While we’re at it, why do women at formal events, like the Oscars, dress to show off their figures? Why is this a thing and one that is long, long in history. Bosoms are uplifted and spilling out. Dresses are often tight showing off the curves. At other times and other events, women’s legs are also on display, either in short dresses or with big slits.
Men don’t dress like this unless they are in swimwear. They don’t wear formal attire that shows off abs, or pecs or their butts. They never show off their legs. Their clothes are much more comfortable *ties excluded.
Our societies norms dress women to emphasize their sexuality.
Jodie Foster’s tuxedo was refreshing at the Oscars.
@TatinG: I completely agree with your observation. Watch the evening news on TV – the men are completely covered up – arms, legs, chest, everything. The women are wearing sleeveless tops and, even if their skirts are short-short, their legs are showing.
And don’t get me started on high heels!!
There have been too many cases that even include organizations that are suppose to help people. Oxfam, a British charity, had news about what they did in Haiti.

The UN’s issues are also coming out.

Since I support men wearing sleeveless tops, skirts, and heels, I also support women choosing the same. What always bothers me is pressure to conform to the perceived status quo.
Depending on your social circle, high heels are expected or trangressive, even for women. imho.
@VeryHappy = Yes. Our major market local news weather people are either young, beautiful women with big busts in tight fitting tops and very short skirts OR three 60ish old men who wear conventional suits.
