And now Nassar’s boss is arrested:
CF, I didn’t see the 60 minutes interview, but did she really come out and explicitly say that she thought sex was expected in that situation? This was more than 10 years ago, but she seems so self possessed and confident now that it’s hard to imagine her being coerced into something, even subtly.
Of course I agree with you that sex is never something expected in exchange for dinner or anything else.
I think it’s more complicated than that.
I think she thought that he assumed she’d have sex with him, and she didn’t have a terribly strong objection, so she did. So it was consensual, even though it wasn’t what she would have wanted.
I can identify.
Eww. Seriously, eww.
She said she used the bathroom, and when she came out he was “perched” on the edge of the bed. She said,
I interpreted that as her thinking she is obligated to have sex with him, even though she says unequivocally later in the interview that she didn’t want to.
She wanted him to give her a job on The Apprentice. Maybe she thought that she couldn’t refuse his desire and still get the job she wanted.
^^Nailed it.
CF,
I totally get the feeling that Clifford expressed. Because of my childhood experiences, when I found myself in a situation very similar to hers I also believed that I was obligated to cooperate even though I did not want to. A counselor that I spoke with later told me that I should not have expected the man I was dating to not have sex and so he had a right to demand it.
It may not seem to make sense for many of you but believe you me, it is how many of us who were sexually abused as kids would react.
And many porn actresses were abused as kids. Don’t know that she was but I’d put money on it.
A director from Nickelodeon was let go today.

The post states his departure was due to the treatment of the young stars.

It appalls me that any counselor would say something like that.
I’m not sure that this is always true.
For example, if the woman was obviously intoxicated at the time when she “consented,” did she truly consent?
Well if being drunk is not an excuse for one party to sex why is it an acceptable excuse for the other party? It is a slippery slope legally in my opinion. But I have to side with if you think you consented you can presume the other party in the sex probably thinks you consented.
Russell Simmons is being sued again. I didn’t realize he was such a slime bag.
Any thoughts about the Tom Brokaw story?
He sure is punching back.
Wowser…he was a friend’s buddy so I knew him alittle when I was younger. Like Al Franken who I also knew alittle both men were really stand up guys. Although I’m not surprised Tom Brokaw is pushing back and so eloquently and forcefully. Al Franken handled it his way basically thumbing a finger at Congress as he went out the door to a private life. And Tom Brokaw is handling it his way… gotta love the eloquence though of his letter:
Actually Brokaw sounds self-indulgent and entitled to me in that passage. Ok, I get it, he doesn’t like his integrity being questioned. No one does. But he chose a career as a celebrity, and when a celebrity is accused it is news. Maybe he is innocent, maybe not. But he doesn’t get the rewards of a career in front of the camera without the risk of bad publicity. Stripped of any honor and achievement indeed.
I think the media sticks their proverbial necks out pretty far. Oh well maybe Tom Brokaw will do it the way Al Franken handled the stories and just glide into a quieter life with his family and I wouldn’t blame him.
The allegation is more than 20 years old. Peoples’ memories change over that period of time.
Ha ha could be. Over 60 women including Rachel Maddow, Kelly o’donnell, Andrea Mitchell and Maria Shriver sent a note in support of Tom Brokaw. Generally people know who the problems are in an organization. For all practical purposes he could probably sue her but I suspect he is far too decent a person to do that. It is a shame she picked the days when one woman who was actually harmed was in court hearing a verdict that could have advanced the real agenda.
So a third woman has now accused Brokaw. The incident is very old but she said she only came forward because she thought it was awful the other women were being called liars.
