Assess My Application and my chances on getting in...

I know there's no realistic way for anyone on here to fully assess whether or not we'll get accepted, but what the heck!

School: Brand New Public, I'm a part of the first 4-year class. Has had its ups and downs, (mostly downs though, like going through 6 Spanish teachers in the past 3 years. Oh yeah and Spanish is the only Foreign Language. Or no library/computer lab for some time, or other issues). I have been taking the most rigorous course load available, which was essentially one or two honors until this year when we received AP classes, like Calc AB, Lit and Comp and AP Spanish IV with an actual teacher, although I fear its too little too late.

Race/Gender: Hispanic Male

Major: Philosophy, English, Government

GPA: 3.6 uw/ 3.8 w (Badish grades end of freshman/beginning of Sophomore year, and C's in Spanish those years because of teacher craziness, but upward trend from there)

Rank: 9/89 (so close to top decile)

Tests (Highest): 2210 SAT (710 M/720 W/780 CR)
760 USH SAT II
790 LIT SAT II
No AP exams.

Extracirriculars: Kind of generic/lacking due to myself and the offerings of my school.

Varsity Soccer: Only consistent one, 10th-12th grade, 10th was the first year we hd sports at our school, I have been Co-Captain of the team.

Varsity Football: 11th, friends convinced me to.

Student Government: Only involved this year, I wish I had been involved in earlier years because its cool, but whatever.

School Spirit Club: 11th/12th

Volunteer Club: 12th

Film Projects: I have done some stuff with video making for local organizations 10th and 11th, like group documentaries and such, but not a tremendous amount of time dedicated, but fairly decent.

Recommendations: good to great

Essay: About my frequently overactive bladder and how its shaped me, unorthodox but well written.

Awards: Scholar Athlete around my school 10th and 11th Grades

National Hispanic Merit Scholar 12th

Am I being unrealistic? Dartmouth would be my first choice but I really didn't research colleges until just past EA/D deadlines (Stupid move I know). Any critique would be nice, thank you!

The grammatically incorrect title bugs me.

bumpity bump?

You played Varsity Soccer and Football your junior year?

Yes, one of the perks of being a small school. Although it was only 8 man football and not necessarily very competitive due to the small talent pool. And the way the seasons coincided, the day I turned in my pads was about the day soccer began. And in all honesty the soccer team should have been a JV. The first year we were a team of mostly freshman and sophomores and were utterly destroyed by established, experience Varsity teams. Small new public school for ya.

I would say your grades and scores are pretty competitive, so you have a decent shot, but your extracirriculars are lacking like you pointed out. It might be better to not list some of the things you aren’t that interested in and just dabbled with to give your application more of a focus.

I don’t know how Dartmouth will view the lack of APs. Does your district/state not offer any online AP courses?

My school has only recently began offering AP classes, three years after its opening. Other schools in my district do offer APs, but I can cannot access them. However, I have taken courses at the local community college (Cultural Anthropology, Computer Science and Algebra II), so I guess I tried to utilize as many educational resources as possible.
Oh yeah and my grades this final semester are:
AP English Literature- A
AP Spanish IV- A
AP Calculus AB- A
Civics- A
Film/Video- A
Honors Physics- B
TA- A (duh)

One final bump.
