Assigned Seating

Hey guys its the start of second quarter and I really hate assigned seating in english class!!

Anyone have the same problem like this qtr i have to sit around annoying jerks and sometimes I cant concentrate fully in AP english...anyone have the same problem with assigned seating??
I find it kind of hard to concentrate and clear your mind esp in timed writings and stuff when ur around annoyin ppl.

What should I do?

I only have assigned seats in Bio. Which is OK, considering I didn't know anyone at the beginning of the year, so it didn't matter.

I'd ask the teacher if I could move because those around you are hindering the learning process.

thats true, but the thing is ive made too many requests for the teacher and i feel bad but the main thing is it might seem really weird if I suddenly have a diff seat one day.

Do u guys reckon I should jus try my best to concentrate and jus move on?

All I have to say..Is that at least you won't have to worry about intruding other people's seat:)

huh?

anyways anyone with other suggestions?

Just be glad that you didnt get that seat right across the teacher's desk.
That sucks big time.
My favorite seats are usually next to windows, or next to a wall where I can kinda lean my back against the wall.

Being around jerks is much better than being around rather competitive people. Jerks usually have really dumb-funny things to say and it's kinda amusing to hear them talk about stupid stuff. I sat next to this competitive guy once, and we were the top 2 in that class, and he was ALWAYS trying to hide his work, and he always asked me questions, but would never answer any of mine. ANd he kept on asking me how much i studied the night before. He was STRANGE.

Yeah its true i guess.

But in a hard course like ap english where concentration in like timed writings may really affect ur grade, seating may matter.

Like for eg just in that class i feel so alienated jus sitting in that seat. Like the guy who sits next to me aint too fond of me either, we don talk cause weve had our history.

U guys reckon i should ask after class to be moved to like the front or something?

oh and wouldnt ppl like wonder why i moved to a diff seat and somebody took my seat??
U think blamin it on something else like vision will be better?

bump bump bump

maybe you should ask your teacher to rearrange seat for everyone..

assigned seating sucks. i sit next to my friends so we have a better time in class rather than just sitting it through.

interestingly enough... i only have assigned seating in non-ap classes.

I hate it more when you get to choose your seat at the beginning of the year but then you NEVER GET TO CHANGE IT.
I wasn't at school the first day so everyone took all the good seats in my English class and I was forced to sit in the back. Which thoroughly ****es me off, since I'm one of those people who like sitting in the first two rows.

yess....thats what i had to do in AP chem, cuz i had a seat in the back...adn theres people who sit next to me who WILL NOT SHUT UP ....it got to the point where i couldnt even hear the teacher...she couldnt move my seat cuz no one in the front wanted to give up their seat...but she let me move a chair up to the front...

I doubt people will notice and/or care that you moved seats. I'm like you and I always care what people think, but you kind of just have to get over it because honestly, people (especially people in high school) really don't care. Think about it - if you saw someone suddenly sitting in a different seat, would you really wonder about it to the point that you think they're really weird and that you can't believe they don't like those funny jerks and god what is WRONG with them?! You can blame it on your vision or just say that you couldn't hear, but it doesn't really matter. Ask the teacher to move seats because you can't concentrate and let everyone else think what they will. That's my advice, anyway :)

thanks everyone for some great advice...yeah i guess ill jus ask to be changed and leave it at that.

Anyone else with more advice?

bump bump bump

Say you have trouble hearing from where you're at.

the thing is our classrooms r really small and im like center middle (the class is like divided in half both sides towards each other), so itd be impossible to say its cause of hearing.

The board is at the front though.

Its so weird for me like i kinda feel miserable and alienated in my seat but is that too uncommon? Like i dont want to talk to the guy on one of my sides hes a jerk and I dont know the other people around me.
And the fact it makes me not be able to concentrate uncommon too ?
SHould i change my thinking or follow advice to switch seats regardless of what ppl think.

Kelklyann in particular thanks for ur reply, it was really helpful.

sry for so many bumps

Cant you try to get along with the people you dont know? (exluding the jerk).
Like, not make friends, but become aquaintances? Someone you can just say Hi and Bye to, someone who you can ask an english related question, etc..
It may feel un-alienating after awhile.
