Hello everyone !

Quick question, does anyone know if the UC's (irvine and riverside mostly) look at your overall GPA when your inputting in your classes/grades in the admissions? So far in my UC TAP after putting in my information, it shows that my Assist Certified GPA is 3.2 , my Non certified is 1.43* and overall is 2.85. Which one do they look at and do they care if my non certified is extremely low?

This was due to getting an F in a nontransferable class for ether UC and CSU and I'm not going to bother retaking it.

ASSIST certified. Those classes are UC-transferable and have an impact on your UC GPA, the one that matters.

UC’s willing only care about the grades you received in UC TRANSFERABLE classes. These are the grades that will be used to calculate your GPA while applying to UC’s. Now for private or grad school that would be a whole different story…

^^I agree with UCBhopeful. The UCs are looking at your UC transferable GPA only, so classes that don’t transfer (such as remedial math classes or weird “fun” classes). So that’s fine.

If you plan on entering the workforce directly after college, you may not need to show both transcripts, since upper division (aka your “graduating college”) would be more important, if you even need to show a transcript at all. So if you got a 4.0 after transferring, you may be able to get away with just showing that.

But for grad/prof school…this class may hurt you. An F (obviously) can pull down your GPA dramatically. I would recommend retaking the class if possible. Sounds like you’re applying to transfer fall 2013 so you have fall 2012, spring & summer 2013 to do it…I would definitely do it. Or at the very least, get academic renewal on it asap and still consider retaking it later.

thanks everyone for your input.

Shannon, if I were to take AR on that class (which is a remedial math and I’m currently in Calc3 now) since retaking it would be kind of silly, do the UC’s care at all about this or how does that work? is AR better then F’s? W’s?

AR won’t make any difference for the UCs because the class is not UC-transferable. These classes have no bearing on your admission to the UC of your choice.
