Assist.org Interpretation Help!

Please help me understand the ASSIST.ORG guideline concerning my FOREIGN LANGUAGE transfer requirement. I'm not sure how much I really need--is IGETC enough or do I need "four college semesters" worth?

This is for Foothill College --> UC Berkeley --> Peace & Conflicts

I took 2 years of French in high school and French 3 in at a CCC.

"1) The L&S Requirements in Reading & Composition, Quantitative Reasoning, and
Foreign Language; OR
2) IGETC"

and

"- If you do not have native language proficiency in a modern language other than English and do not have a 5 in AP foreign language exam, take as many semesters of foreign language as possible before transferring. NOTE: Four college semesters = approximately five years of high school foreign language High school credit does not satisfy the foreign language proficiency requirement unless the student was educated outside the US in a system where the language of instruction was not English."

you should call berkeley to elaborate.

It’s saying that you can pick one or the other. You can either complete IGETC and be done with it, or you can follow the L&S requirements. You just can’t mix them.

The L&S foreign language requirements are listed at [Degree Requirements-Foreign Language Requirement](http://ls-advise.berkeley.edu/requirements/fl.html)
