Assist.org vs school website

I was accepted to UCSD as an Economics major in B.A

According to the assist.org webpage, it says I need to take Calculus 3. I took calculus 3 and dropped this semester, being unaware of it. I was still passing but I wanted an A next time. I checked back at the UCSD website, Calculus 3 is RECOMMENDED but NOT required for admissions.

I’m confused a little bit. becasause UCSD Website does say this

“Visit assist.org to find the complete listing of major preparation and transferable courses at your college. Please note that the courses listed in assist.org are for preparation for your major. The courses used in the screening requirements for admission into the major are those on our website.”

And also the assist.org UCSD Economics BA says:

DATED MATERIAL, SUBJECT TO CHANGE. PLEASE CONSULT CURRENT UCSD GENERAL
CATALOG FOR ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.

Effective Fall 2017, major preparation will be required for this major. For

details, visit: http://admissions.ucsd.edu/MajorPrep <- which is where I got the quote for above

And it also says

Students are strongly advised to complete the third required math class, Math 10C or 20C,(Calculus 3) before enrolling at UC San Diego. Students are not able to begin their upper division core economics courses until Math 10C or 20C is complete.

Am I safe here?

Oh by the way, UCSD’re REQUIRED math courses is Calc 1 and 2 which I passed with A’s of course. It says Calc 3 is RECOMMENDED.

I hope I’m safe?

The top of assist says this:

So they say the same thing BUT – UCSD assumes you are in the process of taking 3, which might have played a part in their accepting you. You need to contact them. We here have no idea, although for what it’s worth, UCSD seems to be one of the more easy-going UCs re: pre-reqs.

Contact them and let them know in case they want you to take in summer.

So they’re saying I can enroll into UCSD with their REQUIRED pre reqs which I have completed but won’t be able to enroll into upper division courses AT UCSD. I was planning to retake it in summer at my cc anyways. I just didn’t know if calc 3 was a required but it says it’s recommended.

I wasn’t failing. I had a B+ with great chance for an A but I had a really bad day on an exam day and didn’t do well which plunged my grade. I was like “wtf how did I screw up this bad?” It was as if another person took the exam for me. I couldn’t believe the mistakes I made. I didn’t get any sleep for almost 2 days for that exam then it happened. So I dropped because I’m confident I can get a good grade in summer, which I was planning.

Their Math 20 series it the engineering series or the regular series. I took to 20 series. Took up to 20B which is Calculus 2. 20C is Calculus 3

Just did my SIR and it only says to maintain 2.0 GPA or higher

^^^ you seem to be hunting around now to make your interpretation work out. And you’re free to do that, but if the admissions office doesn’t agree with you then you won’t be going to school in the fall.

As an earlier poster pointed out, the admissions office may have been expecting that you complete this class as part of how they decided to admit you. And since you now seem to like to grab snippets from rules to justify what you’re doing, keep in mind that the conditions explained in the application package and rules on the UC website require you to promptly notify UC of any change in your schedule.

So what will happen when they see your final transcript? I don’t know. The people that do know work in UCSD admissions. You have the choice of contacting them now and if it turns out dropping this class matters maybe you can still work something out. Or you can wait until they see your transcript later this summer. All up to you

@mikemac No I called UCSD this morning. They don’t care as long as I have 60 semester units and a 3.0 or over. They don’t care if I drop out of any of the classes or all of it because non of them effect my IGETC, pre req that effects my admission.

I called UCSD admissions this morning. Calculus 3 is NOT a required course to get into UCSD meaning I can take Calc 3 at UCSD(But I’m going to take it in summer at my cc). So I’m in good shape.

Academic changes notification was due back in January 31 which I already have completed. I was up to date with that.
