Assistance Required In Determining Transfer Admission (Crucial Stage)

I’m an International Student from India Studying at University At Buffalo (UB) . I had 2 gap years after high school because of family circumstances; Graduated High School in 2016 . I started studying at UB in Fall 2018 . I’ve just completed 5 semesters. I was on semester break in Fall 2019 and semester break this Fall 2021 and probably for the following 3 semesters (Spring 22, Fall 22 & Spring 23).

I’m currently hospitalized because of a bacteria infection and would require major surgery as soon as possible. Post Surgery, I’d be bedridden for a while. I’ll turn 24 on coming February. I just have the option of 4 approved semester breaks, so for Spring 23, I won’t have an approved leave of absence; I would’ve to drop out of UB and re-apply for Fall 2023. Also, my F-1 Visa will expire in May 2023.

I prefer transferring out of the University At Buffalo. I want to transfer to an Ivy League or T25 College . I won’t be able to apply for 2022 Transfer Admission because of current health conditions; also, I need to recoup my health and follow up on the post-surgery treatments. It would take a prolonged duration as I have post-COVID Health issues. So I can only apply for 2023 Transfers. I hope to transfer to a Top College for Fall 2023.

Credentials:

I have a GPA of 3.92/4.00 at the University Of Buffalo , but my high schools GPA are low- GPAs 3.2/4.0 (10th Grade) & 3.0/4.0 (12th Grade). I plan to retake the SAT and ACT this year, and I’m expecting a possibility of scoring in the 99th Percentile (SAT 1520+/ACT 34+)

I’m primarily focusing on an E-Commerce Business that would generate around $1 Million in 2022 . I have been working on this since 2019.

Would I stand a chance getting into a T25 College as a Transfer student, or should I just re-enroll at UB?

I’m worried because I’ve had 2 gap years after high school and the 5 Semester Gap in between college. Even if my company generates more than $1 Million, I wouldn’t be able to drop out as my parents have spent a significant amount of money on college and expect me to graduate.

I would appreciate your thoughts, as I’m in a crucial stage of life!

If your business is successful, then why would it be worth the bother to change college, as opposed to just finishing and graduating where you are?

Most top colleges require students to spend at least 4 semesters at their university to get a degree. I would finish out at Buffalo so you don’t further extend your undergrad education. If your business is already so successful then where your degree is from is less important.

You can always look ok towards elite colleges for grad school if you eventually go that route.

Also I would not bother to retake the SAT or ACT. Those exams are specifically meant for HS students and nobody will care or be impressed by how well a 24 year old may score.

I think that your first priority is to get well. Take whatever time you need and get the appropriate medical attention. My best wishes are with you and I hope you will fully recover as quickly as is reasonably possible.

SUNY Buffalo is very good. It sounds like you are doing very well there, or at least were doing very well until you got sick. With a 3.92 over five semesters, your high school grades do not matter anymore. You have shown that you can do very well at a very good university.

I do not see any point in retaking the SAT. The SAT is intended to help access the readiness of high school students to do well in university. You have already shown that you can do well in university.

You need to make sure that your current university understands that you are still undertaking medical care, and will not be ready to continue your education for a while. Then when you are ready, you need talk to your current university about restarting. Then you will need to get a new student visa but I do not expect any problem there assuming that you can afford your education.

I agree with other comments that transferring to a different university to complete your bachelor’s degree does not make much sense. You are already enrolled at a very good university.

I would say re-enroll at UB. When you get your bachelor’s degree, if you want to apply for a master’s degree or for any other graduate program, then with a 3.92 GPA from a very good university plus good business experience you would be quite competitive at any university. However, it sounds like your company is doing very well and you might want to focus there rather than study towards any graduate degree.
