Associate's before transferring from CC

Is it worth it to complete the pre-req's for an Associate's Degree rather than take courses that won't count towards my associate's in favor of hoping they transfer to fulfill certain requirements at a 4-year school? To complete my associates I will need to take Bio 2 w/ lab, speech, 2 gyms, and an elective not including MAT. Rather than that, I can choose to take courses that match up at a 4 year school like: Java, Calc III, Western Civ I, Web Programming. This will likely (assuming they transfer) get rid of some pre-requisites for my 4 year degree, but I would not be transferring an associates, but rather ~60 credits from a CC.

Thanks!

It really depends on the school you are transferring to. If you are mainly applying to state universities then there is usually an agreement between the the CC and the University where they will take most of your credits. Associate degrees however, are not required to transfer.

I am actually planning on taking one extra semester (5 total) before I transfer just so that I can get my associate degree. Many of the state universities I go to have agreement with community colleges.
