assuming i get into berkeley, how hard would it be to transfer to EECS?

assuming i got in the college of arts and sciences. i heard that it usually isn't possible. but if so, when would i usually apply? what would be the criteria? would i have to adjust my schedule to math / science based classes during freshman year?

oh, and finally, would being oos hurt me in that sense too?

thanks

i havent dont this personally, but i plan to and this is the information i have gathered.

it is possible and i believe you would have to maintain a 3.7ish. That figure is not official, but just what someone stipulated. You could apply around january of fresh/soph year. you dont hear results till the end of second/fourth semester. Criteria required is that you fulfill the core/lower division classes (ie cs61 series and the ee classes and other math and science classes).

Look at cirriculum and requirements under General Catalog - Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

there are also some workshops that tell you how to go about transferring. You have to submit a personal statement explaining why you would like to transfer too.

I dont understand how oos would hurt you.

I heard it's more difficult than going directly to EECS. Kyledavid80 should arrive shortly to answer your question. laughs

It's not as difficult as getting into EECS as a freshman. The College of Engineering offers mandatory workshops for those who want to transfer into an engineering major. From what I've gathered from friends who have already transferred into Bioengineering, the process isn't horribly difficult.

Here are things that you should keep in mind:
1. Take EECS prereqs. Basically just take what CS majors take for the first year.
2. You cannot transfer into EECS during your first semester. COE wants to see a year (or a semester, the times differ for different engineering majors) of coursework before it can decide if you're allowed to transfer. If it is a year, then you would apply in the Fall semester of your second year.
3. The workshop mentioned above is mandatory. You sign up sometime in August or September. To sign up, you can go to Betchel Hall or ask your residential academic advisor.
4. Being OOS does not hurt you for transferring between majors.
5. EECS is a difficult major.
