Allright, I hope maybe some parents or Mids can comment on this. I had Asthma from the time I was very young until I was 10 or so. I had my physical a couple weeks ago, and the Dr. told me I was going to have a really hard time getting cleared because of this. I don't have any traces of Asthma at all. I don't have a rescue inhaler or anything. Anyone have any proven ways to show DODMERB that I don't have Asthma at all? Anyone have a similar experience in the past? Thanks

The bronchial challenge test will conclusively prove whether or not you still have asthma. If your doctor is not an allergy/asthma specialist contact one for an appointment. Make sure you bring all of your relevant medical records with you. DODMERB will accept the results of this test. The service academies will grant a waiver if you pass.

there has been a lot posted on asthma on the USNA threads.... do try searching and you will find lots of info-

best of luck!

One of the "key" dates is your 13th birthday.

If you have been treated for asthma/reactive airway disease/exercise induced bronchospasm after your 13th BD you will be disqualified.

You may have to take a methacholine test to prove you no longer suffer from this condition.

Don't allow the dr who did the phyisical intimidate you.
The very best DoDMERB advice is found on the Dodmerb forum at http://www.serviceacademyforums.com/

The retired Navy Corpsman who worked for dodmerb knows his stuff.
My daughter successfully got a waiver for Asthma with his kind help and advice, though you may not even need a waiver as Luigi notes. You may however need to gather all birth to present medical records -

Work with the system - don't speculate. Every asthma diagnosis is different.
Good Luck.

I also have a history of childhood asthma. Mine asthma stopped being a problem before age thirteen and I've been off of medicine for several years. I had my physical on August 1 and I wasn't DQ'd. DODMERB told me I had "remedial required" and requested every medical record about me that exists. My situation sounds similar to yours and so far I've just been working with the system.

Hope to meet you in the class of 2012!

The Doctor was really cool about it actually, he was just trying to be realistic. When his son was dealing with DODMERB he had to send in a ton of a medical records to prove he was okay (don't know if he had asthma or what the problem was).
