Or maybe astro and anthropology? Something like that.

I've loved astronomy as long as I can remember, and I can honestly said I'd be happy in an astronomy career. However, rather than pure research, I'd like a job that lets me deal with people more. I know all scientific fields require collaboration between countries, so maybe I could be an astronomical ambassador of sorts. (Not necessarily for the government, but you know what I mean.)

Anyway, does this type of job exist? If not, would an IR major necessarily be a good idea? Astronomy is still my main interest, and what I plan on pursuing no matter what.

I would love being a planetarium director. Are those jobs particularly competitive? At least compared to any other astro job. If so, would an IR degree help?

I cannot imagine how an IR degree would be needed to become a planetarium director. According to Wikipedia [List of planetariums - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](<a href=“List of planetariums - Wikipedia”>List of planetariums - Wikipedia) there are less than 150 planetariums in the US. If you assume that on average a person holds the position of director for ten years, then there are only about 10-15 job openings per year. Being that small, I would infer that it is a pretty competitive job market. However, this is all supposition on my part. If you think that is a career that you would want why don’t you contact the director of the planetarium closest to you and find out how he/she got the job and if they have any advice for you.
