astronomy major concerns

I really want to major in Astronomy or Astrophysics in college, but I've never touched a telescope before (yes, hyperbole, but still...) and I don't follow the local astronomy club around (I do like looking at the sky a lot and do keep track of space related news thgh). Are most astronomy majors 'experienced' or inexperienced like me? I don't want to feel outclassed in college.

No you don’t need to have touched a telescope. Most astrophysicists I work with never touched a telescope before. It’s not necessary at all, as looking thru those cheapo telescopes don’t give you really and information about anything.
