Astronomy schedule

I'll be a freshman Astronomy major at Ohio State in a few weeks and I was just wondering what kind of workload should I be expecting with my courses

Honors Physics 5 credit hours
Accelerated Calculus 5 credit hours
Intro to C++ for Scientists and Engineers 3 credit hours

I have two other seminar courses but they're S/U so I'm not worried. I just don't know what to expect with only 3 real classes, but two of them being 5 hrs.

Have you had any prior programming experience? That could make your C++ class less stressful. I’d assume you’re good at math since you’re an astronomy major, so that should all be enough work for you to handle. I think you’ll be okay. I had a very similar schedule this past fall except I had proof-based Linear Algebra instead of Calculus.

I’ve taken conventional C/C++ classes and would rate the difficulty at “medium” by most standards. I have to imagine the “for scientists and engineers” version is easier since programmers are a lot smarter than you guys and make more money.

Kidding of course but it shouldn’t be that bad. I assume you’re using it almost like a super mega calculator for modeling equations and not learning how to create “end user” software and that alone makes it less demanding than some CS-for-CS-majors classes.
