I'm helping my daughter (junior in HS) research colleges with astrophysics majors. She is also interested in continuing to study dance and perform, but does not intend to major in dance.

Does anyone have information to share about the astrophysics major at Tufts? I read that they recommend a double major with physics (or math), which is not uncommon and she would likely do that given her intention to go to grad school.

With regard to dance, she would like to continue classical ballet as well as modern dance, but modern dance seems to be more common. She may have to compromise on that at many of the schools she is interested in. The dance program at Tufts seems modern focused.

I would appreciate input on either topic and I'll pass it on to her.

Hi, I'm a freshman here at Tufts.
I'm not sure about astrophysics but I do know about the dance program.
The dance classes are actually fairly decent at Tufts for both modern and ballet. Also, as you get into higher levels of the classes, Tufts holds "Master" classes where they bring in professionals to teach an intense class. Also, there are 3 dance groups that i know about that she would maybe enjoy: tdc (tufts dance collective- one of the largest student organizations here but it's definitely more fun then technical), sarabande (an ensemble that you must audition to get into- probably the one that she would want), and burlesque.

hope that helps!

Thanks, livelovelearn! Sometimes it's hard to find those student groups on the website. I'll suggest she do a search for those groups.
