astrophysics

hey, i am still contemplating this subject, but astrophysics might be the field i want to pursue after high school for my career. I was wondering what opportunities are there out for me such as organizations, teams, summer programs, research programs, that relate to astrophysics, volunteering centers? Can you provide some and maybe have a one sentence explanation of each, thanks!

how about just astronomy or physics in general?

Duke TIP offers an Astronomy/Physics course at Pari Observatory in North Carolina for grades 9-12. It’s two weeks in the summer.

I want to be an astrophysicist too, but I don’t really have opportunities (or money) to enroll in programs like that…I spend a lot of time surfing the web and library stacks for astronomy stuff. I’m hoping that’ll be enough for MIT lol.

yea money is a problem for me as well

Look at these courses from OCW:
[MIT OpenCourseWare | Physics | 8.224 Exploring Black Holes: General Relativity & Astrophysics, Spring 2003 | Home](http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/physics/8-224-exploring-black-holes-general-relativity-astrophysics-spring-2003)
[MIT OpenCourseWare | Physics | 8.284 Modern Astrophysics, Spring 2006 | Home](Modern Astrophysics | Physics | MIT OpenCourseWare)
[MIT OpenCourseWare | Physics | 8.901 Astrophysics I, Spring 2006 | Home](Astrophysics I | Physics | MIT OpenCourseWare)
You can glance through some of the lecture notes. If you really want to get involved, buy a used textbook used in the courses and follow along with the lectures and stuff.
I did that for 6.002. Its quite fun learning whenever you want to :D

thanks, anyone else got any ideas?
