ASU Herberger major- I want to be an animator but I'm not sure what major is best!

So I would like to become an animator, whether it’s for a TV show, a movie company, a video game company… And I’d really like to apply to the Herberger Institute at ASU. The problem? I’m looking through the majors, and I can’t find anything really specifically for animation. Is there anyone out there who has graduated from Herberger and went on to become an animator? If so, could you PLEASE tell me what major you did? This is really stressing me out. :-SS

Your major doesn’t have to be so narrowly focused - e.g. if you want to go into animation you major in animation. There are a couple of majors at Herberger that can suit: art (either BA or BFA), digital culture (with a concentration in design or media processing), graphic design/visual communication, even industrial design depending on your minor and the skills you develop. Most animation jobs I’ve seen (I work in video games) simply ask for an ‘art-related degree’, not any specific degree or major. They’re really more concerned with your skills and portfolio.

Animators use computers in their work these days and may need a decent grasp of programming, so you may need to combine your art or design major with a major or minor in computer science.

Thank you! I did do some futher research earlier today and yesterday, and I found one that seems to fit what I’m looking for- Digital Culture with a concentration in Arts and Design (pretty sure you mentioned that lol). I also found a page about Intermedia, but it’s not really like a major page- if you’d like to check out the following link, you’ll see what I mean. http://art.asu.edu/intermedia/
