ASU Merit Aid

I was recently accepted in ASU with a major in Aerospace Engineering. Before I applied, I used the Merit aid estimator to see what chances I had for merit scholarships. I have a 4.0 unweighted GPA, recieved a 31 on the ACT and I am in the top 10% of my grade. The estimator told me I could receive $15,000. While I know this is not guaranteed, I’m confused because I don’t see anything about merit aid on the “My ASU” portal.

Am I missing something or did I just not recieve any merit scholarships like the estimator said I could?

If you’re in state that sounds too high for a typical merit aid award. If you are out of state maybe not. I’m guessing your application just hasn’t been processed for merit aid yet.

Why don’t you call the financial aid department?

Why don’t you call the financial aid department?

Hey, I also had the same question, I’ve been accepted for about a month now. I had to learn this myself despite 3 calls to the admissions office since they award the NAUS, not scholarship services, and none of the reps knew. If you log into My ASU, and click the Finances tab, go to the window for Financial Aid and Scholarships, under the Financial Aid Tracker you’ll see a gray box, click More Information and you’ll see your award! I used the estimator and found it OVERestimates your actual award, I was estimated to receive $8k/year, 20 points short away on my SAT from $10k/year as a resident but only received $6k/year, so don’t be surprised if you get less than what you anticipated, I will call admissions about this soon. Also are you applying to Barrett, just out of curiosity.

@Harry0706 Thank you so much, I now found my scholarship!! I was thinking of applying to Barrett but they strongly recommend you apply by November 1st and since I heard back somewhat late, I don’t think I’ll have time to finish the application by November 1st. Are you applying to Barrett?

@mb2005 I’m applying to Barrett! I do feel very underqualified however after going through College confidential threads. Here’s my stats:
3.342 UW GPA, 4.0 W GPA (Honors/AP schedule all the way with 1 on level class only (Econ), my GPA is what kills everything for me)
1310 SAT 27 ACT
VERY involved, 3 years in DECA (advisor is a recommender), 2 years as an executive chapter officer (1 as CFO, this year as President) in DECA I medaled at state 2 years, 1 year I got second place and attended international competition and placed in the top 25% of competitors internationally.
2 years in Link Crew (transition program for freshmen, basically peer mentor to a group of about 10-12 freshmen)
1 year of JSA (junior state of America) basically a politics club which emphasizes criticial discourse on current foreign/domestic issues
2 10-week internships with my local city govt in their finance department (supervisor is a recommender)
Current courtesy clerk at Frys Food and Drug

My letters are very strong, but the essay definitely threw me off guard. I’ve talked with current Barrett students and they all agree that the essay topic limits us on how we can express ourselves and that the topic is very general and doesn’t allow you to write a creative response.

What are your stats/thoughts if you’re willing to share?

I definitely encourage you ask for letters of rec tomorrow, the Nov. 1 deadline is your best chance of getting in, if you’re in state like me your chances are higher, out of state should apply ASAP, they have limited spots and the spots per deadline decline as each pool goes by.

@Harry0706 I honestly haven’t looked much into qualifications/ requirements for Barrett but you seem like a great candidate!!

My stats are:
4.00/4.00unweighted gpa, 4.36 weighted
31 ACT
I’m a competitive dancer so I’m very involved in my classes, teaching classes and volunteering at my studio
Member of student council
Member of National Honor Society and I’m a head tutor within it
Heavily involved in the Peer Leaders club at my school and I’m serving as President this year
My school has a radio station so I have had a show and been a manager at the station through high school
Picked as the female representative of my grade to attend Girls State (leadership program based around politics and law)
I organized a school wide program/presentation on the dangers of tanning last year and I’ll be doing it again this year
Server at an ice cream place
Miscellaneous volunteer that add up to around 300+ hours since freshman year
I’ve also received academic awards in math, science and history throughout high school

The essay is somewhat weird and most supplements have come somewhat easy for me but definitely not this one. I do, however, think it’s an interesting topic and I’m curious to see how my own essay would turn out. There’s a good chance I won’t finish my Barrett application by November 1st but I’ll most likely apply after that and see what happens!
