ASU or SBCC?

Hey guys.
I have only taken the GED test and ACT. My GPA is around 3.2 unweighted and ACT 24. Should I go straight to ASU for 4 years or SBCC and trying to transfer to UCSB or USC after 2 years? I'm just afraid of not getting college experience at SBCC. I could also go to ASU and trying to transfer to UCSB/USC after 1 or 2 years.

Cost of each option?

ASU 150k and SBCC + UCSB/USC 160k. Isn’t it nearly impossible to transfer from ASU to USC after 1 or 2 years?

are you a CA resident?

No. I’m from NY.

Those look like non-resident non-commuter prices in each case.

What about schools in your state (or country) of residency?

I hate the weather here. Money isn’t the problem. I want to transfer to USC but also have the “real college experience”. Do you think the chances of transferring are really that bad if I would go to ASU instead of SBCC?

I hear you on the weather but, transferring to USC or UCSB is a tall order - a 3.4 in college while fending for yourself is harder than the 3.2 you’ve managed in high school (especially when tempted by the Santa Barbara social scene). Santa Barbara is beautiful and fun but, an absurdly expensive place to live. (think $500+/month to share a room in a crappy apartment) I’d hate to see you get here and get stuck. I think you’d be better served heading straight to a 4 year school.

I’m not sure of your status but if ASU has accepted you, and SBCC is your only option, (and you can afford it) I’d go to ASU. If you are still working out where to apply, add some of the mid-range CSUs to your list. Sonoma State has great weather…
