I was waitlisted at Chapel Hill (after being deferred), so I think it would take some sort of miracle to be accepted there at the end of June.

So my decision boils down to the University of North Carolina at Asheville, and Appalachian State University.

I'm undecided about my major. I'm leaning towards psychology or communications. Nothing with too much math! On that note, there's a chance I'll try to transfer to Chapel Hill or a different school once I decide what I want to do with my life. Is it going to matter which school I transfer from if I maintain a good GPA at either?

I lived in Asheville until I moved when I was 15. That being said, the town of Asheville is very dear and familiar to me. My grandfather lives there, my dad lives there, and I have a job there. But I'm not attached to UNCA.
I have another friend who is in the process of applying, but I don't know if she'll be accepted yet. I can't make my decision based on her, but I don't want to upset her by choosing App either and just leaving her on her own.

As for ASU, I like the idea of going to a bigger school. ASU apparently has 16000 students, while UNCA has 3600. That's a big difference. They have more majors to offer, but I'm not sure how much that matters as I am undecided right now. I also know a couple friends who are attending App, and I don't know anyone who attends UNCA (except for possibly the girl I mentioned before, if that). I have a bit of a hard time making friends, but I know I'll have the opportunity to do so at either location. Again, I know it's silly to let other people influence my decision, but it's inevitable.

I love the mountains, which both schools have. I don't have a problem with cold weather (App), but I do enjoy experiencing four different seasons (Asheville). They're about the same cost-wise for freshman year. Are academics about the same? Music programs? etc.

Thanks for your help, everyone.
