My dad wants me to go to ASU for convenience reasons (it’s only a 4 hour drive from home; plus the half-hour flights are cheap). I’m keeping my options open, but I wanted to at least consider his opinion, so I looked into it.

I’ve been looking at various review sites and have seen less than stellar reviews.

I’ve read complaints that the student body doesn’t care about academics and that people are very fake. Is this stereotype overblown? To what extent is it true?

I know that the honors college would have a higher concentration of serious students, but I never sent in the honors application (I didn’t think I would be attending). The priority deadline has passed, but do you think they still have spots available? Final deadline is May 31.

ASU is such a large school that you will find people of all sorts. Some do meet those stereotypes, but it's definitely not everyone. There are those who are very serious about their education and their are those who are only there for the socialization. ASU has had a reputation for being a party school and it still exists to an extent today, but I think that's an image that is slowly changing. It can be an academic endeavor or it can be a social endeavor.... it's your choice. As for the honors college, I don't know if they have any spots available. It couldn't hurt to call or send an email asking before you spend the time filling it out.

well they had the #1 student body

Honestly, NONE of the Arizona schools have very good reputations. The only reputations they have are for VERY good looking girls, super easy classes, warm weather, no local job prospects (since the majority of the city is very blue collar) BIG party school, and the state is having a budget crisis that is going to cut DEEPLY into the schools funds.
But then again, if you are NOT a strong student, then ASU would be a great choice, since it seems like it would a school at which you'd be able to pass the classes and maybe even excell in!

Azsummer, your advice is quite poor as it is clear that you have no actual knowledge of ASU. As a high school student with your head in the clouds, the reality behind making the decision of where to go and how one fits in will not be apparent to you.

How many people do you know at ASU? Personally. In a university of over 60,000 students I doubt you know everyone, and as you aren't a student, I doubt you have an accurate perspective.

"Honestly, NONE of the Arizona schools have very good reputations."

Yet both ASU and UofA rank highly among public schools in several departments. Hmmm...
