My ultimate goal is to get an MBA from Stanford. Right now, I have 2 undergrad programs to choose from. In your opinion, which option would give me the strongest chance for admission to Stanford GSB?

Option 1: Duke
-B.A. Public Policy Studies
-B.S. Economics
-Certificate Markets & Management

Go to school wherever you think it will most help you to achieve your career goals (at least your initial ones for the first few years following graduation from college), because it will largely be your work experience rather than what college you attended (or what you studied in college, for that matter) that will determine whether you can get into Stanford GSB.

Wharton is definitely more elite from a business perspective. If GSB is your only concern, Wharton will give you an edge in getting that first job after graduation.

did you get in explicitly to Wharton, or just to Penn? Because it was my understanding that to get into wharton's undergrad program you had to apply wihle already enrolled at Penn CGS. Regardless, Wharton will probably give you a better background and better job opportunities that will, down the road, help you get into top B-schools... but there's other things that should factor into the decision:

your actual academic interests

the culture at the school, and what place makes you feel at home

the odds that you will decide on a career-path change along the way, which is likely if you haven't even started college yet.

and if you do, the ability to switch majors and respect those other majors would get.

i'm assuming you've visited both places by now.

Either will be fine, IMO. Go to which school you like better. If you're choosing between those two, it won't be the quality of your undergrad school that will make or break your admission chances.

Consider a 5-year Wharton MBA while in the undergraduate. I personally know someone who has done this and they were very successful in their career.

I used to recruit at Stanford GSB for a large well known corporation (not in HR but as a line manager). I have also visited many other Business Schools for recruiting before being asked to handle Stanford. Visited campus every 3-6 months.
Why Stanford MBA? Are you into new tech or start-up?

As for the 5-year Wharton BS/MBA, they accept like 6 people into that program, out of like 700 eligible.

I'm looking into getting a Wharton/Penn MBA/JD in the future. I could go with Harvard.....oh wait, George Bush went to HBS. Never mind...I'll just stick with Wharton.

@polyglotmom i am sort of into start-ups, but i <3 Stanford and will probably reapply every year until I get in. From your perspective as a recruiter, were both Duke and Stanford both similiar in terms of recruitment?
