At the end of the marathon, we trip and fall

Garland, was that a private school that your D transferred out of? Why was she miserable.....too small? poor fit?

garland, that has changed. There is not enough Honors housing (South Quad) for the students in the Honors program, and the program director told us to get our housing application in early. We feel Honors housing is a critical part of the experience so it put a lot of pressure on us to sign up. Michigan has a real housing crunch, and it's even worse now because they are taking one dorm at a time out of service to remodel them.

SBDad - let us know how it all turns out. He certainly has two great options.

Congratulations!

As you've already been reassured (repeatedly) your deposit at U-M isn't "binding." Students do withdraw every year after putting in a deposit. We call it "melt." You may be out the deposit (not sure) but you're not "in trouble."

Honestly, I wish Housing wouldn't pressure students like that. It is a huge pet peeve of mine.

From hoedown, the Michigan guru. Assured and reassured - thanks so much. Yes, I've now heard of summer melt.

Choco--it was another OOS public. BAd fit--not challenged by fellow students though the profs were great, big drinking/frat/party mentality. Ended up at an LAC which she was sure was the last thing she wanted, and it ended up great.

That's too bad about South Quad; they've been able to house everyone there for ages; I wonder what changed.

First, trust Hoedown. She knows. She is the voice of reason over on the U of M board.

Secondly, and I know you know this, but I feel obligated to say it. As soon as your son is sure he is not to going to U of M, please let them know as soon as possible. As a regular reader of the U of M board, I can tell you there are approximately one bjillion kids over there checking their e-mail three times a day, waiting for an answer. And until a month ago, my kid was one of those.

Peg
mother of a Wolverine-to-be! or if he has already accepted, is he already a Wolverine???

Yes, Peggy, he IS a Wolverine...for life! (As am I).

So glad yours is no longer one of the bjillion!
