I am my school's Jefferson Scholar, which is a UVA founded scholarship program.
My sister goes to UVA, I am not sure if this helps.
What are my odd's?

I looked up whether a sibling would make you a legacy; it doesn’t. On paper you qualify but who knows? How many students from your school are accepted there each year? Apply and apply to safeties. You are sure to get into many great schools. Good luck.

Sibling isn’t technically a legacy, but it can show that you are familiar with the school and aren’t just applying because of some magazine ranking. It surely cannot hurt you to mention that you would be joining your sister there if admitted.

ACT: Virginia states on their website that, “For the ACT, we look at the best composite score and the best subscores, regardless of whether those subscores are from the administration where the best composite was earned. We hope you will submit all of your scores knowing that we will recombine the sections to get the best possible set of scores.”

On that basis, I think you’re in. 34 ACT would be more likely than not, but still uncertain; 35 ACT, 3.8+ GPA is all but certain.

I’m more interested in this: “I am my school’s Jefferson Scholar, which is a UVA founded scholarship program.” What OOS schools have a UVA-founded scholarship program? Is it just across the border but very close geographically, for example in WV or NC, so that UVA is actually the closest major university? If the scholarship is one-per-school and specific to UVA, is there no presumption that the Jefferson Scholar will be admitted under normal circumstances (i.e., no disciplinary or legal problems)?

Never mind, I looked it up. You are your school’s nominee for a Jefferson Scholarship (congratulations!), but still have some intense competition ahead before they determine who gets the actual scholarships (hang in there!).

I would suspect that if you are selected as a regional finalist, you have a already locked up a presumptive admission offer with it - after all, what if you are selected for the scholarship by the foundation? It would be embarrassing if the school could deny admission to someone selected for the scholarship. So, being your school’s nominee weighs heavily in your favor for an admission offer, no matter whether you advance in the competition or not.

Since the nomination deadline is December 1, the admissions office should be able to confirm your JS nomination before releasing any decisions, even EA, but the finalists are not known until late February. So I would consider them confirming that you are your school’s nominee to be enough to say you are a presumptive admittee. Congratulations!

Don’t take Math 1 and Math 2, it’s worthless. Just take Math 2- it’s higher level math than Math 1 and goes through precalc. I think you have a shot at UVA, but its really competitive.

I think you have a very good chances, but UVA can be somewhat random with admissions, and the fact that you’re out of state hurts you.

If you were in-state they’d accept you without even reading the rest of the application; however, out of state makes it hard. But you have great credentials, and you’ve done as much as you could have. You have a good chance!

@MijoChbulkan‌ Im sorry, where do you get that UVA would accept someone without looking at the rest of the application? That’s just not true, not even for in state- it is very competitive and things just don’t work that way.

@guineagirl96‌ I didn’t mean it literally; I just meant that he would have a lot better chance of getting in in state and he does out of state.

you look really good for UVA! Being the Jefferson scholar is going to look great!
