.....though I hope I can still avoid it :) I would really appreciate any input regarding my chances at some reach universities, as I currently a junior terrified of the college admissions process :)

I am currently gazing with trepidation at the following schools:

Brown
UPenn
Columbia
Yale
Wash U
UF (in state)
Bowdoin
Cornell
Duke
FSU

Unfortunately, after viewing many a 2400, 4.0, Valedictorian rejections, I feel I have a right to be a bit apprehensive with regard to college admissions…Somehow, a rusty shovel does not sound all that desirable, either…

University of Florida and Florida State is a sure bet! =]
Ivies: your stats are amazing! ec’s need a little work. but with a great essay and good recommendations I’d say about 30% to like Cornell and about 20 % for the HYP type ivies. I’m wondering myself what it takes to get into those schools, but from I have researched and people I know that attend those schools, here is my best guess.

Well, noreally, a lot of those rejects are either 1) barren in ECs (which you aren’t, you have great things going on), or 2) completely boring and unpersonable. Ivies want leaders, not bookworms.

joshcasto is being very optimistic. Brown, UPenn, and Columbia should definately be considered reaches for you. Your ECs need work for you to be highly competitive for the most selective schools.

No. You’re gonna be a janitor. Poor you. DeVry and Phoenix won’t touch a 2320 with “state award” ECs, it’s a tough environment out there.

But on a serious note, you will not have to worry. At all. 2070/2400 on the SAT automatically gets you into UF Honors, and you’re competitive for every school you plan to apply to, including Ivies. I got into Duke with similar SATs and ECs (well, plus some medical stuff and minus the band state awards–my trumpeting sucks).

There’s self-deprecation, then there’s ridiculous. Enjoy your summer, you’ll have plenty of time in the fall to stress out about colleges. Write good essays, get good recs, you’ll be fine.

your worry about getting into the ivies is not unwarranted. they’re a reach for everybody.

your worry about not being able to get in to a good college is utter foolishness. so is your impression that failing to get in to an Ivy or elite LAC will doom you to years of being unable to find a good job.

What makes you think you will end up in custodial work?
Anyways, I would say that the ivies are reaches, but they are reaches for all applicants, including valedictorians who have 2400s. Good chances at Wash U and Duke. In at UF, Bowdoin, and FSU. I suggest working hard on the essays in order to stand out in the pool of applicants, especially if you want to get into the ivies. Good luck!!

lol you’d be a very intelligent janitor
honestly your ecs are weak, but strong essays and recs could help to offset that
Of your ivy level schools, you will probably get into 1 or 2 of the lower ones
Brown-rejected maybe waitlisted
UPenn-on the fringe of rejected/accepted, prob waitlisted
Columbia-rejected
Yale-rejected
Wash U-probably in, but they like to waitlist
UF (in state)-in
Bowdoin-in
Cornell-probably in
Duke-rejected
FSU-in

Obviously I’m being harsh, you could get lucky!
So, in summary:
Rejected:
Brown
Columbia
Yale
Duke
