This semester I did not do as well as I thought I'd be doing academically so I want to know whether or not to put down my goal of going to UC Berkeley

Berkeley, much to the chagrin of many a transfer student, does not post the average accepted GPA for transfers. However, some numbers have been thrown around as baselines.

The minimum required is a 3.0 in order to be considered for admission to all the UCs. But for an actual chance at getting in to the Letters and Sciences college, you need about a 3.5 to 3.8. Of course, that depends on the major and how ‘strong’ your application is. If you GPA is lower, than you need some extra juice in ECs or Personal Statements to make up for it.

Haas and Engineering have stricter requirements and fewer spots, so they are naturally more competitive.

So Berkeley would really only be out of the question (for the average student) if you got below a 3.5 and had few ECs. I have heard of people getting in with lower, but that depends on circumstances and the application.

I know someone in an unimpacted major who transferred at around 3.4-5. I also know people who didn’t get in for business with lower range 3.9’s. Sometimes majors known to be harder will get more lenience, but if it’s impacted, it’s not easy to get in. Get your prereqs done. Second to GPA, that’s the most important thing in my opinion. Anyway, it’s hard to answer your question without knowing your major.

By the way, UCLA does post a lot of statistics. It might give you an idea of top UC standards, but since they get accepted right into the major, it is a bit different.
