Atheist applying to Jesuit University?

Georgetown is one of the top places I'm going to be applying to, and I know they are a Catholic Uni. For a part of the essay, you're supposed to talk about yourself, and I know that they want a very diverse group of students. It may help to talk about being Persian - an ethnic minority, but on top of that, atheists are also a minority.

I wasn't going to mention religion in my essay in order to avoid any controversy, but would it seem like something is missing from it if I didn't even mention my religion (or lack thereof)? And would saying I'm atheist be likely to spark some negative bias in the admissions officers there?

Thanks!

Georgetown Application asks for religious affiliation; do they strive to have most of the student body be of Catholic faiths or do they prefer the diversity?

A college would not deny you based on religious affiliation, or lack thereof.

I personally think you should stick to writing about being Persian. No risk associated with that.

On the application should I say I’m atheist or mark it as prefer not to answer?

not to answer
