Athletes and the social scene

Are sports popular at tufts. For example: do the football games draw most of the student body to watch the games; the lacrosse games? And the basketball games? Or is most of the student body ignorant as to what is going on and how their teams are progressing through the season.

Also do the athletes have a better social life at Tufts? or is it all relative and no matter what you do or who you are you will have a good time if your looking for one? Do the students look up to the athletes or do they not really care at all?

And how often does the average freshman, sophmore venture into Boston?

The only athletic event people go to is Homecoming. And they don't go for the game. Someone on this board said it best, it was something like: Sports at Tufts are for the community-bonding they provide for the athletes involved, not for the Tufts community at-large. (Addendum: I think a lot of people also go to the Head of the Charles, the big, annual crew race.)

I don't think athletes have a better social life or vice-versa. You will have a good time if you're looking for one, and aren't holed up in your room like some sedentary loner. Freshman year is especially very social, what with everyone wanting to meet new friends in their new environment.

I'd say the average Tufts student goes into Boston often to shop, see friends at other Boston schools, go to the theatre, concerts, etc. -- especially on the weekends. I mean, there's a T stop a 5-minute walk away; for the lazy set, a 1-minute Tufts shuttle (a.k.a. "The Joey") ride away. On weekend nights there's also the Boston shuttle which makes stops at Copley and Boston Common every hour. It's definitely not hard. Once you turn 21, you go in even more often to check out the diverse nightlife Beantown has to offer.

The only reason I go into Boston is to sell handguns to underpriveleged ghetto youths and occasionally to get them addicted to the latest drug I'm selling...

Other than that and a show here and there I didn't go into Boston all that much I guess. Live in Kenmore square now though.

Harry, from your two questions, about sports and girls, I have a sneaking suspicion that Tufts may not be for you. What attracts you to Tufts, actually? I wonder if you would like a school better that has a Div I football team and more of a fraternity/sorority presence...this is just my feeling. I could be wrong.

yeah, check out BC. (That was not intended as a BC insult - just that from my experience, hot girls that are pretty smart and interesting go to BC [but alas, they tend to trend towards being Typical Girls], and football's huge there.)

i worked hard in high school, and Tufts has a great education to reward myself with. Tufts is right by Boston but not IN the city, and its not too big nor to small.

heh, i like those things too. BC is still suburban and near the city, but it's about twice the size of Tufts.

How about William and Mary? There's more of a drinking dependence there (I mean, they're in Colonial Williamsburg, lol), hot girls, same size.

Harry: Are you an athlete yourself? If you got into Tufts, would you be playing on a Varsity team?

either basketball or lacrosse, yes

You're being recruited in two sports? I'm impressed.
