Athletic, preppy look

I'm athletic looking and tall, although pretty skinny, and I have no idea how to dress. What do I wear to pull off the athletic, preppy look because I think I would look best in that. Thanks!

are you a male or a female?

I’m a male

A lot of guys at my school wear athletic shorts (just by the knee) with crew socks and sneakers (not these http://www.runningshoeswizard.com/image-files/good_running_shoes.jpg</a> , but shoes like this http://www.lunarsalestore.com/images/nike_free_run_men_black_white.jpg</a>)

And when they want to look a little more dressy, they’ll wear khaki or twill shorts with crew socks and sperrys.

Where do you live? Because it depends…

not-too-loose tshirt, polo, or button down with a tshirt underneath
cargo/ cacky shorts or jeans or pants
sperrys or sneakers

thanks…and for further clarification, im going to nyu and the athletic preppy look will show im straight and not hipster lol

Don’t wear cargo shorts, but do wear normal shorts of khaki or similar colour. Usually I suggest to buy shorts that go above the knee, but if you want to ensure no one thinks anything, go for below or at the knee.

Tops would be polos and t-shirts. Sports-related t-shirts are fine.

To add a bit of uniqueness, wear real boat shoes instead of Sperrys (if you want). Also, never ever ever wear Sperrys with socks (please).

Aside from Nike sneakers, get a pair of clean, simple shoes (think Vans canvas) for a more casual, non-sporty look.

Buff up. Workout son.

Then you can really pull off the athletic, preppy look.

if you go to public school, don’t.
but if you don’t, just get some pastel shorts from j crew, vineyard vines, or brooks brothers and wear broken in tees and nike ****.
then get some sperrys, nikes and wear nikes with midcalfs

Thanks everyone so far! Also, what kind of jeans and shorts should i go for? All I have are basically American Eagle denim jeans and basketball shorts. lol

you can basically wear any shorts and pants as long as you wear crew socks and come nice casual shoes…or at least, that’s what I think…
BTW, don’t worry about it too much…haters gonna hate…

Get a pair of straight cut dark jeans, as well as a lighter one for more casual occasions. Levis is always a good entry point.

Okay, what do I wear for sweaters and sweatshirts? No-one has answered that yet. Also, what goes well with mocassins? And for the rest…

for shirts: polo t shirts and just regular hollister/american eagle t-shirts
for shorts: cargo shorts
for jeans: basically anything (i have navy blue denim jeans mostly)
for shoes: basic running and boat shoes

I’d drop the Hollister/AE shirts. No offense but not only is that style old but it is extremely immature-looking, even if you are the most mature person ever. But wear what you makes you happy.

I personally do not like cargo shorts, but they will go well with your style.

Jeans I already told you about.

Moccasins and boatshoes go well with shorts. Just don’t wear socks.

For your running shoes, a good polo + darker jeans + shoes should be a solid combination.

Ralph Lauren polos and shirts. Vineyard Vines everything. Sperrys/Moccassins/boatshoes.
Nothing from those dark stores at your local mall with half naked women pictured on the wall— Abercrombie.
AE and hollister AREN’T classy.
Get some nice chino shorts.
For more casual things, get a pair of nice nikes.
Also, white undershirts can be perfect for casual things.
Don’t wear socks with sperrys.
In the summer, jeans are okay ONLY if it is chilly or something at night.

AND DON’T WEAR SOCKS WITH SPERRYS!!!

what do i wear for t shirts if no AE or hollister? i dont like polos very much

Really everything from Vineyard Vines will work.
