Athletic Recruiting: How does it work?

Any information about this topic is greatly appreciated. I'm interested in baseball particularly, for my son. He is certainly not a Div. I superstar, but will 4 years of varsity baseball gain him admission to any of the following:
GWU, Villanova, Fordham, Fairfield, etc.?

If he pitches there are many schools in the Northeast with good baseball programs that would love him if he doesn't mind throwing with ice still on the ground in March and April!

All kidding aside---there are many good d3 schools with solid baseball programs and yes if you son is a good player that it will certainly help with admissions.
He should begin by contacting the coaches at the schools he is interested in.

The vast majority of high school baseball players will not be helped by their sport in admissions. It will only help if he is recruitable. Most recruitable players attend camps during the summer before applying where college coaches get to see them. There are very few slots for baseball players at colleges compared to say football and it is highly competitive. I'd put it this way, if your son is not a superstar in your region if not state, if his coach has not told you he has college potential, there is little chance he'll get recruited.
